Lassen View Resort Remembered: The old Days
Well, we're off for our annual summer trip and just in time I found a wonderful collection of images from the former Eastman Studio out in Susanville. Old J.H. was a fixture of the area -- his postcards were still available at the LVR store in the final years. Remember the times gone by in this collection: 1936: 1 1937: 1 1938: 1, 2, 3, 4 1939: 12, 1940: 1 1944: 1 1948: 12, 3, 4 1951: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1956:1, 2 ♥ ♥ ♥ Bill and Hilary Wed!
Some say it was in the stars from the get-go and while we at the Plumas Junction can't vouch for that, we can assure you no shotgun was involved in the happy engagement.
The wedding, held upon the shores of Lake Almanor upon the deck at Plumas Pines, was a smashing success drawing people from as far away as Europe to attend! ![]() Chris Harada gets the good shots
It is hard to imagine that there'd be a single photographer on the planet that Bill could possibly like, especially in the wedding industry. There is no question why wedding photography is increasingly landing in the hands of friends-and-family photographers when one deals with many events.
Having worked once with Chris in a professional role and once as a member of a wedding party, Bill found Chris wonderfully easy to work with and a wonderful asset to our team -- we're looking forward to seeing his results soon. We'll post some here if we are able. ![]() Local weather conditions

Pictures, Round 2!
Some people have been nice enough to drop us CDs with photos in the weeks since the wedding. Check this article for more as I'm able to get them up. I've got a CD from Vicki and Geoff Dawe now, Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!
If you took digital photos or traditional prints won't you consider sending them to us? While Chris is a great photographer, he can't be everywhere and we're sure you'll take some shots worth sharing. We're getting some in already. James did what's known as a "zero-day" and got me his CeeDee Sunday. Shellie also gets the Zero-Day Award With Clusters for getting her stuff up and online from Almanor. Cheryl sends this photo, a moment that proved popular. Note to grooms: the reason I stayed dry was that all the cake went in her cake hole. Other Albums: Geoff's (snapfish), Martie and Paula's, Roy's (webphoto), Chris Piper's (via the interesting looking pbase). ♥ ♥ ♥ Also, scans of interesting artifacts!

Other area weddings make reservations scarce in Chester
With three weddings going on in town, room space was at an extreme premium in the preciously small town of Chester. Groups ended up at three principle locations: at Bidwell House, the Cedar Lodge and at the so-called "compound" at the exclusively-booked Plumas Pines resort. We were generally pleased with the Pines, though the lack of ADA-capable facilities made it a difficult stay and ran two of our three guest parents to more commodious lodgings. Fortunately our vicar, while wounded, was still capable of scaling the steep embankments. Chester's Bidwell House came out on top -- no booking issues and generally found agreeable by all who stayed there. Discerning foodies raved constantly about the quality of the breakfasts there. Bidwell spreads its guests around and we had lots of reports of good times had there. Most adventuresome lodging goes in a split-tie to the Chico group Child's Meadows and the group off of B-street staying out in Westwood. Reports still need to be investigated on the condition of the latter, but a number of assurances were made that it would be "Clean and commodious." The group in Child's Meadows reported it was in a great valley and while the hotel was perhaps typically funky for the modern era, it was generally found to be fine. As this is a group that enjoyed the mountain areas near Bear Valley, this was a picture-perfect valley for themselves to be found in with views as fine as one might find along the California coast for folks with a different sensibility. ![]()
How did a giant meadow become a massive lake? Its a positively gothic tale, even by early California standards...

![]() Holy crap. Yes. Hilary walked the dogs in her wedding dress.
Hilary's Oleg Cassini wedding dress handled the rough elements of water, powdery dirt and the embankment at Plumas Pines with wonderful ease. It took walking dogs to finally do any damage, this being a small tear in the netting. |
Lassen filled with Aliens?
I can't say as I've heard a lot of Plumas County tall tales, but in one of those weird Internet moments, I discovered that some believe that reptiliod aliens are duking it out on the slopes of Lassen . Further, there exists a tunnel tunnel to the Hollow Earth. Huh.![]() Stop the thermal whats?
The second most frequently-asked question at our wedding: What's with the 'Save Lake Almanor/Stop The Thermal Curtains' signs ?![]() Lil' Dave plays Plumas Pines, Torch Club
Those guys tearing up the stage on Saturday night were Lil' Dave from Greenville, MS. Seems an awful long way to come for a three-piece and a guy to work as their manager, but seems like they've got a pretty good setup. Not exactly the sort of guys you'd think you'd see out there though a remarkably good time. According to both Lil' Dave's spokesman and the Torch Club's calendar ![]()
Lassen: Could blow at any minute
Sure, they SAY that its geothermally stable, but its the same part of the Ring of Fire as a lot of belchers, including Mt. St. Helens. Be sure you know what do do when the ash flows

Getting Here Is Half The Fun
We can hear you now -- THREE AND A HALF HOURS FROM SACRAMENTO?!?! Yeah, its a haul, but with a couple of ways to get there as well as plenty to see along the way, how can you get bored? [Your mileage may vary].

Little Norway closed November 2005?
Where to get your Kenny Rodgers fix?
Word from Little Norway's website is that on November this year
Little Norway will take the boats in one last time. I could have sworn that it said "5 November" someplace and now I see a citation for "Labor Day" so maye they're already gone. We'll see if anyone answers the phone over there. Elsewhere: Bill Johnson posts a 'low water' warning about looking for new destinations. The Pollocks rented there when we weren't getting boats from Lassen View. They're now closing side by side and the lake will be worse off for it. Nobody had as many boats as cheap as Lil' Norway and it was always worth the trip for gas and a eat at Lassen View. I'm sure we haven't seen the end of both yet, but times look hard ahead for the "casual" traveler.
