Plumas county has lots of fine, reasonably-priced accommodations and none are particularly far away from the wedding site. We can't speak for many of these places offhand, but we have some information below under Featured Accomodations. Information on the various towns is available here.

Some thoughts: • Two other weddings are going on in town, so be sure to book soon. • Lots of places feature waiting lists. Might want to try to get on those. • In the winter, most of these places shutter -- if you can't reach them, try again in spring. • Most everything in the area was built before we were born. Could be charming, but some places might be a bit rough around the edges. Be flexible -- you are in the forests and it's beautiful!

We've done some preliminary legwork but there's a number of places and they'll tire of hearing from us fast. In Chester

Chester is about midway between the wedding site and where we plan on having the Friday gathering for everybody. Its the nearest Teeming Metropolis to all locations.

Bed & Breakfasts

Bidwell House. $80-170. #1 Main Street. 530.258.3338 -- The Bidwell house is a charming bed and breakfast with lovely grounds on the far edge of town. Town isn't exactly huge or anything, so its not like you'll be too far from the bustling city centre. Pleasant vistas are just a short walk away.

Cinnamon Teal Inn. $65-100. 227 Feather River Drive. 530.258.3993. Just a few blocks west of The Bidwell House, Cinnamon Teal is the "original" area Bed and Breakfast, or so we hear tell. Perhaps a little less gingerbread, but seems pretty reasonable.

Motels

Best Western - Rose Quartz Inn. $??-$???. 306 Main Street. 800.780.7234. This one is still under construction so there's not much to be said about it but that it'll be both the only major named motel chain and recently constructed motel in the area. Its allegedly going to be done in time for the wedding...

Flying at your own risk -- It should be said that all the rest of the listings here are, well, prone to some color. If you've spent much time in California's Gold/Timber country, you'll be fairly used to the routine: most motels were built during the golden age of motels during the 50s and 60s and while most places in Chester take a fair amount of pride in their accommodations, its going to be more colorful than your standard modern-age motorlodge though. Sit back and think of big Buicks and dad driving in a suit and tie whilst on vacation, not Psycho.

Chester Manor Motel. $62-110. PET FRIENDLY. 306 Main Street. 888.571.4885. The Chester Manor used to be considerably more funky fresh before they started building the Best Western next door. Still, can't beat the 50s-era marquee out front. Nice rooms. Sadly, when the Rose Quartz Best Western opens up next door the Chester Manor will be turned into offices and stores, thereby closing a charming chapter of Chester history.

Antlers Motel. $47-78 (2002 prices). 268 Main Street. 888.469.7829. Having gotten a close glimpse of the Antlers when by there recently, I think perhaps it qualifies as "cozy". Old-style motor lodge, ramrod straight. Seems fairly well maintained but when we were there over the winter half their power was out. Roll the dice?

Cedar Lodge (& RV Park). Junction Hwy 89 & 36. Glen at our not-to-be-named-on-the-internet wedding venue resort said these were good folks when we were up in February looking for a place to stay. We cruised it and it seems pretty nice though is secluded on the far end of town. Secret hint: this is also about as close to the wedding location as you can get without us telling you about the secret accomodations ;)

The Villiage. 347 Main Street. 530.258.0344. Right across the parking lot from The Burger Depot lives a cute collection of cabins called "Teh Villiage". Look cute and cozy, though no pets allowed.

General Area

Bailey Creek. $195-$325 w/discounted golf. About 10 miles out from Chester but not inconveniently located for either the wedding or the Friday reception. 1-866-959-7829. Fairly new and right along the golf course, Bailey Creek offers a rather unusual place to stay and is probably going to be the poshest accommodations in the area.

St. Bernard Lodge. $??-$??? (allegedly ~$55 in 2002). 10 Miles West of Chester. I've had a good recommendation for this place, though its kind of middle-of-nowhere.

Child's Meadows Resort. $??-$???. About 20 miles out from the Lake, 10-15 from Chester. Its a ways out and kind of funky looking but its one of the most beautiful locations you could find a motel in.
